Today I mostly read my e-mail. I also searched for a picture of my cousin's greyhound. I ended up reading a few websites about greyhounds in general, although I was originally searching for a tiger-striped one.

6. What progress did you make today on your solution? What needs to be completed next class?

Today I finished making my dice and planned out my code. Next class I plan to type at least half my code. I may complete part (or most) of this at lunch. I plan to take the book home to study some concepts to expedite finishing the programming. Note: I should have taken Web Design.

2. What choices did you face in developing your solution, and how did you choose among them?

Today I had a problem deciding whether or not to put the dice dots on all sides of the dice or just on the side facing forward. I have decided I will put dice dots on all sides (yes, I'm obsessive-compulsive...) and tomorrow I will finish editing them. Hopefully I will be able to take a book home tonight and work on the code on my computer, or else I probably won't finish the project by tomorrow. As a side note, I'm very proud of how cool my dice look :)

Today I read many World of Warcraft comics. I also read some of European History for Dummies. Apparently among the ten Europeans who dominated the continent are Napoleon, Hitler, the Volkswagen 'beetle', pasta, and ABBA. Napoleon also apparently hid from his guards on Elba to make them think he had escaped so as to give the British governor heart failure.

Today I read part of Eclipse by Stephenie Meyer. It's the third in a trilogy about a girl named Bella who falls in love with a vampire named Edward. In this particular excerpt, they had just returned from visiting Bella's mother in Jacksonville. They get back, and Bella finally finds out that Edward was so anxious to get them away from Forks, Washington where they live because a vampire with a grudge against them was coming to kill Bella. Bella was upset that Edward hadn't told her and made him promise to tell her next time.

4. Are there any specific tips you would give to someone else tackling the same problem? How would what you suggest benefit that person in solving the problem?

Today I was answering the questions at the beginning of Step 4. If anyone else was working on this I would advise them to look at the questions first. They should then read the chapter and try to absorb and understand it. After this, they should read the questions one at a time and look for the answer within the material they had just read. This way, they would learn better than if they just skimmed for the answers.

3. How did you go about testing your program? What were the results of that testing?

To test my program, I entered the numbers in the book. For both exercises 3 and 4 my program yielded the same answer that was displayed in the book. However, the messages displayed were different, due to my own style. For example: instead of "The package is both too heavy and too large" I said "Basically you fail all around."

Today I read part of Memoirs of a Geisha. It is a very good movie, and an almost better book. Usually the book is much better than the movie, but these might be equal. I also read about the Sony Reader (that will be my Christmas present to myself this year...). ThinkGeek.com also has a shirt that detects and shows WiFi signals nearby.

6. What progress did you make today on your solution? What needs to be completed next class?

Today I finished Exercise 3. This exercise was about making copies and predicting the prices of them, and the overall price. I finished this using the Select Case function. I also started on Exercise 4. Monday I will hopefully finish up Step 3 and make significant progress in catching up.

P.S. I was absent yesterday and Wednesday I was in the College Career center.

Today I read Fight Club by Chuck Palahniuk. Not all of it, but part of it, somewhat near the beginning. Most of this part was the narrator talking about his job and his new addiction to fight club. He was talking about how lackluster his job has become (not that it was particularly thrilling before; he is a car recall specialist). Tyler Durden, another main character, is portrayed as very mysterious in this book.

P.S. I'm sad I finished watching the movie first, now I know the twist :(

6. What progress did you make today on your solution? What needs to be completed next class?

Today I got two exercises done. Being very behind the class, I need to make much progress next class. The exercises I did today were the area and perimeter exercise, and the pizza cost one. Tomorrow hopefully I'll be able to complete the exercises. With luck, I'll make good time on the joke project as well.

1. What problems did you encounter while developing your solution? How do you plan to overcomethem?/How did you overcome them?

Today I had problems converting equations for the Fahrenheit/Celsius program. I fixed this problem by working it out and testing the equations against each other to check them. This workied because if A degrees Fahrenheit equals B degrees Celsius, then obviously B degrees Celsius should convert to A degrees Fahrenheit. This was a relatively easy problem to fix.

Today I was reading about different products on ThinkGeek.com. This will soon lead to me losing a lot of money. The rechargeable USB AA batteries are going to be a great product to purchase with the TurboCharger for my cell phone. Tthere was something called Swedish Fire Steel that will spark anywhere, and MayaDust will light anywhere, even when wet. This was very educational (and will be very expensive).

4. Are there any specific tips you would give to someone else tackling the same problem? How would what you suggest benefit that person in solving the problem?

I would tell someone trying to answer similar (or the same) questions to actually absorb what they read. While answering the questions I repeatedly referenced the chapter, and in doing so, managed to memorize most of it. This will be extremely useful in completing the exercises assigned. Anyone using this strategy will retain the information in the chapter better for a test. They will also have to use their book and ask questions less in future projects.

1. What problems did you encounter while developing your solution? How do you plan to overcome them?/How did you overcome them?

I was having some problems answering #10, the question about the code errors. I needed to go back and read the part of the chapter concerned with code malfunctions. This helped immensely, and I only have the last part of that question left to answer. Yet again, I will re-read the section about code errors in an attempt to fix it in my memory.

6. What progress did you make today on your solution? What needs to be completed next class?

Today I almost finished the critical reading questions. I began at 4 and am halfway through 10. Tomorrow in class I need to finish 10, 11, and 14 of the critical reading questions and begin work on my exercised. To catch up, I need to take the book home and read (and possibly re-read) the chapters on Variables. If I read tonight, tomorrow I'll be able to make fast progress on the rest of my work.

Today I started my book "The Birth of Venus." The preface was about a nun named Lucrezia who died from a tumor. Although, upon her death, they discovered that it was in face a pig's bladder that had been stuck on her breast, and not a tumor at all. I am at a loss as to why she died if it was not because of a tumor, but I hope I will find out in the rest of the book. She also had a very interesting tatoo, but nobody knew, because they were very strict about no one being able to look upon anyone else's body, or indeed their own.

4. Are there any specific tips you would give to someone else tackling the same problem? How would what you suggest benefit that person in solving the problem?

Today my problem was trying to fully understand variables. I would suggest that someone take their book home and read through the chapter. If they don't already have the Visual Basic program we are using on their computer at home, I would suggest they download it. This would enable them to glean a better understanding from the book, and they could practice their knowledge on the program. This would be especially helpful for them if they had missed being able to practice in class. Doing the exercises the book provides would also be beneficial because they could check the answers.

Today I was in class for about 5 minutes before I had to leave for the College Career center to learn about colleges in Europe and Australia :)

Today I read some of Dracula by Bram Stoker. In the story, Jonathan Harker awakens at the count's house. He finds breakfast (or supper; it is about 5 o'clock in the evening) waiting on a table for him outside his room. After eating, he wanders into a library, which is suprised to discover holds many English texts. Apparently, the count learned the English language and some of England's customs by reading alone. He is very eager to move to his new house in England, which Harker is there to sell to him.

5. Provide yourself an example (not one from your instructor) of how you use a particular command that will help jog your memory in the future when you need that command again. You must provide a little code as well as a written explanation with this one.

To move an object up or down a certain number of pixels, I use the code:
Me.pbSmiley.Left = pbSmiley.Location.X - 5
This is will easier to remember later, becuase 'location' makes sense, as the object is moving. Also, X-5 reminds me of x and y mathematically, so it will be easy to remember how to move the object I need to move, and which is which.

6. What progress did you make today on your solution? What needs to be completed next class?

Today, I succeeded in finishing the project we were assigned. This was somewhat surprising, but definitely pleasing; a little less stress. The smiley faces all appear when linked, and the buttons move the picture of the smiley face 5 pixels in the indicated direction. Next class, I may try to get ahead and ask for more work, but more likely I will be rapidly trying to write an essay for AP Euro :).

1. What problems did you encounter while developing your solution? How do you plan to overcome them?/How did you overcome them?

Today I had some problems coding the last of the exercised, the one about moving a text label around the box. This was because I don't know how to code in a location change. I'm guessing it is something like "Me.Label1.location" or something similar. I am coming in after the Perspectives meeting at lunch today, and hopefully then I'll find out how to move the label :D

Today I was reading the end of a book I got out from the Media Center, The Time Traveler's Wife by Audrey Niffenegger. She has the oddest last name...anyway. It it one of the most enjoyable books I have ever read and frankly I'm shocked to find it in a school media center. It it about a man who has 'chrono-displacement syndrome'; he involuntarily time travels for short spans of time. In the part I just read, Henry died (as I knew he would) and Clare is trying to start getting on with her life again. I'm fairly sure I only have about 10 pages left. This makes me sad; it was an amazing read.

Today I read part of my friend Justin (Kenel)'s story that he sent me to proofread via email. It is an interesting story so far, about hardened criminals being enrolled in a 'Genesis Race' that they know nothing about before they sign up. I haven't gotten very far, and he didn't send me a summary, so I'm not sure what is going to happen. I also read part of a book from the library called The Darkangel. It involves a vampyre (purposely spelled wrong) and a girl named Aeriel who is trying to save her world. I just read the closure of a battle and the start of her journey back across the plains to defeat the icarus.

1. What problems di you engcounter while developing your solution? How do you plan to overcome them?/How did you overcome them?

1. I did not know how to make a menu strip, or in fact if that's what the exercise called for. Justin helped me (obviously) find a menu strip in which I placed a File>Exit command. I also did not know how to make multi-lined labels. You, Ms. Petr, helped me figure that one out.

2. What choices did youface in developing your solution, and how did you choose among them?

Today we wrote the code for a simple form, some buttons, and a label. We had choices of where to place the objects in the form, what text to put in the label, and where we wanted to move the label. Placing the objects is a simple decision without much weight to it; the same may be said for the text in the label. When coding them, we didn't have much choice because we had to follow the language of the code. Moving the label was only a slightly more difficult decision, because moving it too little wouldn't move it visibly in the program, and moving it too much would shoot it off the edge of your screen.

6. What progress did you make today on your solution? What needs to be completed next class?

5.Provide yourself an example (not one from your instructor) of how you use a particular command that will help jog your memory in the future when you need that command again. You must provide a little code as well as a written explanation with this one.

In the Project we are currently working on, Working with Toolbar and Property Windows, a few of the properties are very easy to remember. The property of RighttoLeft, for example, easily means that the text in your object will be right justified. RighttoLeft layout, similarly, shifts your entire object so that it is right justified.
